The TrueWorks Team is a small but mighty group of people who are bi-vocational. In addition to their roles at TW, they hold other positions at home or in the world of business or education. This means that they truly do understand what it means to wrestle with integrating faith and work. Each of them has a deep love for the City of Houston and a desire to see it flourish.
Kate’s career began when she was recruited right out of college to work for a new third-party logistics company, Crane Worldwide. At Crane she was a part of the team that saw the company grow from $80mm to over $600mm. Kate became the performance manager for the largest region of the company, where she developed strategies to attain corporate KPIs, including process initiatives, benchmarking and audit procedures, as well as the development of systems to enable global capability building.
From Crane Worldwide, she went on to become a part of the leadership team for the MMI agency, a full-service marketing firm in Houston. Here she drove the transformation of the business operations to scale including process design, technology transformation, consumer-facing research and development and executive-level strategic planning preparation for a successful acquisition by an international brand. She led 6 cross-functional teams including media, creative, research and analytics, communications, and project management to successfully deliver revenue of $80mm in agency services annually.
Kate’s passion for the startup world was spurred when she led a lab for MarTech startups, helping to pair them with business to business beta clients. She developed an integrated ecommerce team to run validation campaigns for minimum viable products at one of the largest consumer packaged goods early-stage startup studios.
Having worked in the for-profit business world, Kate applied her skills as the Vice President of Operations for international non-profit, As Our Own. It was while at this non-profit that she facilitated large scale, international organizational change using Theory of Change methodology, applying a test-and-learn approach to revise market and resource strategy, elevated hiring capabilities and re-engaged donors - resulting in an increase of funding for the organization by 40%.
Kate is passionate about working with founders and helping people and organizations develop to their fullest potential, integrating people, processes and technology for the best solutions. In other words, she loves to problem-solve “impossible” problems. She lives in Houston with her husband, JD who is an executive in the world of logistics, their 3-year-old son, John Brooks and their 9-year-old dog, Remy.
If the TW Team had a comedy sketch show, what would your recurring character be known for?
A: Liz Lemmon from 30 Rock. I manage well in chaos but have a tendency to go off on tangents and various rabbit holes. It’s how I keep my sanity with all these TW colleagues!

Outside of the church, Zach is the President of the St. Thomas Episcopal School Alumni Association and and member of the world-champion St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band (bagpipes and drums in Houston, Texas!). If the TW Team had a comedy sketch show, what would your recurring character be known for?
If we’re talking sitcom characters, I’d definitely be Andy Dwyer from Parks & Rec. I try to balance professionalism with moments of silliness. Otherwise I’d be the musician that picks the worst times to sing Wonderwall.

If the TW Team had a comedy sketch show, what would your recurring character be known for?
I hesitate to admit it, but I think I’m the George Costanza of the team: A bit neurotic, too curious, often questioning (though never have I ever been caught sleeping under my desk). I’m the one to randomly blurt out in a board meeting, “But what about that one thing I read one time twenty years ago in [insert obscure book title]!? WHAT ABOUT THAT, JERRY!?” Also known as Art Vandelay.
Rachel Quan is currently Vice President of Special Events for the Houston Astros. In this role she oversees the team that works on the myriad of events at the ballpark that include everything from concerts to corporate events.
Her background in production and events began as a Festival Director and then the National Director of Production and Arrangements for an international non-profit that conducted festivals around the country. She first oversaw one of their largest festivals to date in Houston and then went on to manage production in other festival cities.
A large component of Rachel’s events career was in the co-founding of SBHH, an event management and production company where she was the managing partner. She, along with three other company partners, made a name for themselves in the large event space - including concerts, corporate conferences, sporting events, stadium events and large outdoor festivals. Their diverse book of business kept the event world interesting and fun and their travel took them to places far and wide – from an airfield in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and a multi-million dollar outdoor theater build to running the NFL red carpet stage built in the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas.
Through the company, Rachel managed and directed various events and conferences for a myriad of clients including as the Vice President of External Operations for the HLOC with the three most recent NCAA Men’s Final Fours in Houston (2011, 2016 and 2023). In this role she was charged with overseeing the strategies and teams executing the marketing, communications, public relations, ancillary events and community relations plans for the Men’s Final Four. She has also worked as a part of the NCAA team itself on the 2018 and 2022 Men’s Final Fours in San Antonio and New Orleans, respectively. After years of being a road warrior, Rachel and her other founding partner sold their partnerships and put their suitcases away in 2022.
Rachel was a founding board member for WISE (Women in Sports & Events) in Houston in 2016, and the recipient of their Woman of Inspiration award in 2022. She was also the recipient of the Houston Business Journal’s Diversity in Business, Outstanding Head of Diversity award in 2023 while on the executive team for the Men’s Final Four.
Rachel’s passion project has been as one of the founders of and now a Board Member for TrueWorks - where she loves being a part of the innovative ecosystem that fuels good things for her beloved city.

Wayne Park (DMin ’21) serves as chancellor of Fuller Texas.
